A New Pet Peeve in Time for the Holidays

and one more recommendation

A New Pet Peeve in Time for the Holidays
One of several identical electronic billboards on I-880 in Oakland.

Can you guess what my new pet peeve is? That’s right! It’s the kerning on this sign - the abominable space between the “I” and the “t” in “Its” and that was before I even noticed that the apostrophe was missing. I understand that choosing between “Its” and “It’s” seems difficult, but autocorrect has caught the mistake every time I typed it here, so someone aggressively overruled the basic grammar function on whatever hack piece of crap word processing software they used to make this. And how DID they get the I and t so far apart from each other? Was this a ransom note cut and paste situation? It’s not going to be okay if people are going around spacing their letters like maniacs. Kerning matters, people.

I don’t have anything else to add on this topic but if you’re looking for a few of my other pet peeves, I recommend the original post, other people’s pet peeves, these pet peeves, and these.

Next up: a new Too Good To Be True. This is going to be an obvious one but here goes. When Matt Gaetz withdrawn his name for consideration to be the attorney general, it was because a few senators (at least four) made it clear that they wouldn’t vote for him. This raised the exciting possibility that senators, led by notable “resistance” leader Mitch McConnell, had collectively grown a pair and would be upholding the Dignity of the Institution by demanding qualified nominees from President Trump. All I’m saying is, don’t get your hopes up. Republican senators with consciences and/or a love of “norms” are too good to be true and we won’t be seeing much more of that nonsense. Trust me.

Finally, one more recommendation. This one is more of a request, actually. If you are on Instagram, please follow @5850bottomtext. This is my son Liam’s account. He posts his art there. Mostly paintings and collage. He doesn’t know I’m recommending this and I’d love to secretly get his follower count up. He’s at 165 now. I think we can get him to 200, right?

You won’t regret it. He’s a good artist! Thanks, friends. Have a great week!
