That's Other People's Pet Peeves

I'm Down With OPPP

I shared some of my pet peeves last week (and then a huge one on Sunday) and got great responses. A friend sent me this highly-relatable list:

  • Classical music
  • Football
  • Camping
  • Legacy music acts who try to introduce new material on stage
  • Along with sandwiches, the terms grinder and hoagie
  • Skiing, downhill or cross country
  • Pickle ball aficionados
  • Group laughing, ie in comedy clubs. You go, you spent money, people are laughing, you laugh, you later review the joke in your head and don’t laugh. (Would I have laughed at Gallagher in the 70s?  Probably if it was a group laughing)
  • New Jersey faux Italian pronunciations such as mutzadell
  • Jazz and wine type things
  • People who call me on the phone when I text them. Or call me at all really.

There’s a reason I’ve been friends with this person since we were 14. Of these, I only like camping. I know a pickleballer or two, and as long as they aren’t talking about pickleball, we’re good.

My friend also wanted to know if my distaste for Chinese food plus my apathy toward soup combined into a dislike for soup dumplings. In fact, it does not. I like soup dumplings that aren’t in soup, but if they are, I’d still eat them. I like dim sum a lot, actually. Some of you might be banging your head at the contradiction but the part of Chinese food I don’t like is the goopy sauce part, and that doesn’t show up in dim sum. I hope that helps.

Quick check-in, subscribers: I committed to posting a newsletter two times a month on Wednesdays between May 17 and the end of August. I’ve been slightly more productive than that, writing two newsletters a week. I could write more, but I don’t want to annoy anyone. Let me know what you think.
