Pushback 178
August 26 is National Webmistress Day. Nothing computer related comes up when you search that term. Also nothing comes up for 178. Photo by Shutter Speed / Unsplash

For a few days now, I've noticed a lot of articles about beef tariffs in news from red states, uniformly reporting that cattle ranchers are pissed off at Trump. To me, this is a salient issue that most anti-Trump people aren't thinking about but which will have an impact on the midterm elections.

These are Trump voters. They either support Trump's war in Iraq or don't care enough about it to vote "Democrat." They can put food on the table; guaranteed there's always beef. So they are not impacted and lean supportive to the GOP. But pulling back beef tariffs so that Argentinian beef can flood the market will be like water through stone. Once a little starts to make its way into the crevices, the stone will break. People who won't vote for a generic Democrat will vote for their neighbor who is a specific Democrat. Trustworthy guys like Sherrod Brown and Doug Jones will be looked on quite kindly. The ranchers talk to their buddies who own car dealerships, who are mad about the tariffs on Canadian parts that are slowing down delivery of American cars, and they'll vote for their Democrat neighbors too.

I think the beef tariffs are a bigger deal, and I bet the exit polls in red states will reflect that.
